No Brand Association

Did you see that the National Basketball Association is reportedly borrowing $200 million US to help cover operating costs for many of its league teams? With the growing player salaries, higher ticket prices, dwindling television advertising revenues and sponsorships going bye-bye is it any wonder that the NBA is struggling?

Combine those variables with the global economic crisis, and NBA is in serious trouble. Several years ago during more favorable economic times, I predicted that sport around the world, especially those like the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball would price themselves away from their fan base. I once was a champion of these brands, but over the years many of us have grown disinterested, and devote our resources and time to more practical matters.

With no sponsors in the future, will the NBA stand for No Brand Association? Who will be the NBA brand champions in the future?
